Media Release Monday 14 April 2014

After I successfully started the process to secure a better consultation process for the Nature Conservation Bill, today’s roundtable involving environment and nature groups will enable stakeholders to further explore the ramifications of the proposed legislation, Shadow Minister for Environment Nicole Lawder said today

“ACT-based environmental stakeholders came to me wanting further scrutiny of the government’s legislation. Many were concerned about the lack of time to consider the Bill, but today’s roundtable at the Assembly will give them that opportunity,” Ms Lawder said.

“I hope Minister Simon Corbell will listen carefully to the various organisations including the ACT Conservation Council and consider their reservations and suggestions about the Nature Conservation Bill. It’s complex legislation and today’s meeting should go some way to making sure stakeholders are informed and listened to.

“In future the government should consider better consultation with relevant stakeholders on complex legislation. I’m confident though that today’s roundtable will result in better outcomes for all parties,” Ms Lawder concluded.
