Shadow Minister for the Environment Nicole Lawder has this week met with federal minister Greg Hunt to discuss $85 million for water projects in the ACT, as well as the development of the long anticipated Tuggeranong Wetlands.

“I met with Minister Hunt on Monday afternoon and stressed just how important it is for the ACT to get its slice of federal funding. It’s essential for the future development of wetland projects, including in Tuggeranong,” Ms Lawder said.

“When the ACT Labor government secures this funding it should immediately turn its focus to developing wetlands and replacing concrete drains for the purpose of water filtering.

“Community wetlands also bring about a range of educational and recreational benefits for a cross section of the community as well as irrigation opportunities for surrounding areas.

“It’s exciting to be on the cusp of receiving this funding from the federal government and I’ll be lobbying the ACT Labor government to use it wisely and for the benefit of the Canberra community,” Ms Lawder concluded.
